MY FAVORITE ART SUPPLIES

Trying new supplies is one of my favorite parts of my job. I love picking new colors of products that I know and love, and I also enjoy scouring the aisles of the art store to find new things to experiment with.

I wanted to share some of my go-to supplies in case you are looking to expand your tool box or are just curious about my process.

I usually begin my pieces with a layer of Golden Fluid Acrylics. This type of paint is highly pigmented (which means it packs a big color punch) but is also very thin so you can use it almost like a watercolor. I love its staining effects!

For building up a piece, my favorite paint is Liquitex Soft Body. Its creamy consistency makes it really easy to blend and I love how I can cover large areas quickly.

Another one of my favorite supplies are the Caran d’Ache Neocolor Pastels. They can be used like a crayon for mark making, but when wet they turn into a water color consistency. I use these to sketch directly onto a dry painting, wiping away mistakes with a wet cloth, and also as final details.

Brushes are something that I am always experimenting with, not only shapes but stiffness and length. Since I tend to be quite aggressive, I love something that can hold up to scrubbing and have found myself grabbing the Snap brushes from Princeton.

I also love their catalyst line for their indestructible bristles and interesting shapes as well as the wedges that I use to make interesting marks.

The last layer is where the piece gets its wings. The final touches are often the most interesting parts and really draw the viewer in for a closer look. My favorite things for creating these details are Uni Posca pens, pastels and Prismacolor Pencils.
