LAKE MICHIGAN

— Inspired By the Great Lakes —

This past week I was lucky enough to celebrate my grandmother’s 100th birthday in Northern Michigan. Spending time with her in the house that my mom grew up in has always been a highlight of my summers.

My grandmother lives in a modest ranch home overlooking Little Traverse Bay in Northern Michigan on the land that she and my grandfather bought for $150 when they married in 1948. While the neighborhood has changed over the years, the waterfront remains a beautifully wild and untouched corner of tranquility.

The beach in this area is covered in rocks which probably keeps the tourists away; there is a beautiful sandy beach at the State Park just down the coast. While it isn’t great for sunbathing, it is perfect for a skipping stones, fossil hunting, cairn building and of course collecting the Petoskey Stones that this area is known for. This small stretch of beach holds four generations of memories for my family.

My mind is already spinning with ideas for work based on this beautiful area that means so much to me. For now, enjoy the beauty of Pure Michigan!
